Mr. Lewis Yeager had a brilliant
idea in 1920 that would put the newspapers out of business: Record
news stores on Edison wax cylinders, hook them up to the phone system
and let subscribers call up whatever stories they wanted to on demand.
Absolute nonsense, this. There is no way that
any sort of on-demand, electrically-based information technology could
possible threaten the monopoly of print newspapers in 1920 or at any
