The first thing
that hits you about 1980 ala UFO is the fashions. It was
a world where the suit and tie had given way to turtle necks and Nehru
jackets; a world where perfectly respectable middle-aged bureaucrats
were willing to run about in jump suits and where proper duty dress
for military women was a skin-tight cat suit with white vinyl calf
boots and hip-hugging plastic belts
Of
course, there was some logic to the fashions of 1980. Presumably
if you dressed like a total git no one would notice the appalling
office decor. I do love Commander Straker's office, though.
It was filled with all sorts of toys and bizarre objects de art--
not to mention the automated bar that you can see in the corner.
UFO made it quite clear that in the future you could still
smoke and drink on the job.
