Where
there is space, there are spacesuits and Moon Zero Two is no
exception. For a low budget production, the suits worn by
Captain Kemp et al are not bad with echoes of both 1960s spacesuit
designs and ideas for Activity Suits,
which were just coming off the drawing boards. Not only are the
joint bellows in the right place, but the hard chest piece, albeit
with pronounced "nipples", is a nice touch and very similar to the
sort of design used by American astronauts today.
There's even a control panel strapped to the
suit's wrist to control the various functions courtesy of an array
of knobs, switches and buttons so counterintuitive and unhelpful
that they could have come from a 21st century remote
control. But do be careful playing with the controls because
the life-support pack also boasts a tiny rocket motor to help the
spacemen get about.
Try not to look too closely at the suit's
gauntlets, though. They're suspiciously like the sort of kitchen rubber
gloves you buy down the shops. Perhaps astronauts hate dishpan hands.
