And here we have the unspoken ideal for every new promised energy source whether it's solar, wind, atomic, hydro, hydrates, biomass, hot fusion, cold fusion, or monkeys turning a crank:  the idea that somehow, someway we're going to finally get something for nothing.  Just make an intricate enough collection of hammers and cogs on a wheel, tinker together some clockwork just so, or wire a motor and a dynamo in a really clever way and you'll never have to pay the utility bills again.

And I'm hoping that a lorry full of cold beer driven by a team of topless swimsuit models will break down outside my door  while the wife is away and they'll need to use my phone. 

But I'm not holding my breath.
