I sell here, Sir, what all the world desires to
have – Power.
Matthew Boulton, 1776
And power is what you need if you're going to keep a technological
society going, so it's no wonder that new sources of energy were
always high on the To Do list for Future Past. No point in
putting all your eggs in the atomic basket; keep looking for what it
takes to keep the electricity arcing around the lab. It
may be harnessing the Sun, turning the ocean into a giant heat engine,
or drawing electricity from the earth, but whatever the source, it's
the life's blood of Future Past.
And pedalling that bicycle generator gets to be a bit of a pain
after a while, you know.
