It's
rather interesting that even as the very concept of the cyborg was
trickling into the public mind, it was already being taken to its
logical and frightening conclusion by Gerry Davis and Kit Pedlar with
their creation of the Cybermen in 1966 for the television series
Doctor Who.
The
Cybermen were the products of humans who had extended their lives and
enhanced their abilities by replacing their limbs and organs with
mechanical substitutes. Eventually, they even replaced their
nervous systems and became soulless, unemotional, ruthless automata
bent on universal conquest.
Many
went on to work for Microsoft. |
