The melding of man and machine is one
of those things that seems both a logical extension of the
technological age and a thoroughly repulsive condition that changes
man into just another artefact. The idea of reducing man to the
level of his own creations is probably the reason why it never
commanded a better position than on the periphery of Future Past.
Still, being as strong as a steam engine and as invulnerable as a tank
has its attractions, so it isn't surprising that cyborgs popped up
occasionally as early as the 1930s.
