Starting in 1955, The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction began a run of occasional covers by Mel Hunter known as the Robot Series.  Continuing on and off until 1971, the Robot Series chronicles the wistful adventures of the last surviving robot on an Earth long destroyed by atomic war and how he reacted to the scattered artefacts that he encountered.   As you page through this section, you have to admit that despite being the lone sentient entity on a dead planet, the last robot managed to make a go of it.
