Nanobots?  We've got 'em here in '50s glory.  Mind you, they're not quite as small as the ones they're talking about today, but at least they're little enough to throttle teeny tiny men, and that's all you really need, isn't it?

Here's an interesting take on the little robot theme.  This is an illustration from "The Mechanical Mice," a short story about a machine that manufactures hoards of tiny robots to take over the world, or influence the stock market, or steal underpants, or something.  I've tried rereading this story every five years or so, but the prose is so flat and dense that I've never been able to plough all the way through it.

Forewarned is forearmed, as they say.
