Nanobots? We've got 'em here in
'50s glory. Mind you, they're not quite as small as the ones
they're talking about today, but at least they're little enough to
throttle teeny tiny men, and that's all you really need, isn't it?
Here's an interesting
take on the little robot theme. This is an illustration from
"The Mechanical Mice," a short story about a machine that manufactures
hoards of tiny robots to take over the world, or influence the stock
market, or steal underpants, or something. I've tried rereading
this story every five years or so, but the prose is so flat and dense
that I've never been able to plough all the way through it.
