A rear guard action against a future dominated by synthetic food was the Chicken of Tomorrow.

Back in the 1940s, American poultry farmers united in a poultry-oriented Manhattan project dedicated to using selective breeding and the latest in mechanised chicken coops to create a chicken with bigger breasts, plumper thighs, and more white meat.  

Insane you say? Yes, that's what the fools at the university said, too! They said it was mad! Mad!
