What's particularly amusing about the likes of Le Corbusier et al is that they were already done one better by the pulp sci-fi crowd long before any of them really hit their stride.

For the ultimate skyscraper city we present from the September 1929 issue of Science Wonder the Reverend Louis Tucker's New York City of the future. In his story "The Cubic City," Rev. Tucker described how the modern New York was destroyed and replaced by a single gigantic building two miles high and two miles wide. With eight hundred stories it comfortably holds the entire population of eighty million and boasts a giant rooftop airfield and zeppelin moorings to boot.
